OHS Choral Students Receive Top Honors

Once again, Oneida High School will be well represented at this year’s NYSSMA All-State Music Conference! Three of Oneida High School’s many talented students within the choral music department were selected as members of the 2019 NYSSMA All-State Choirs. Back in May of this year, seniors Josh Allen, Andy Sayles, and Victoria Sgarlata scored near perfect scores on their NYSSMA vocal solos. Because of this, they were chosen from thousands of applicants across the state to represent New York State at this year’s All-State Winter Conference. Josh and Andy will be a part of the Mixed Chorus, while Victoria will be a part of the Treble Choir. Being selected for this event means that you are considered to be one of the best vocal musicians in the state, which is, indeed, a wonderful honor! Another OHS student, junior Megan Dwyer, was selected as an alternate for the choirs. Josh, Andy, and Victoria will travel to Rochester, NY on December 5th and will spend 3 days refining music and preparing for a final performance, alongside approximately 450 other singers from around the state. Their rehearsals will culminate with a performance in the Eastman School of Music’s Kodak Theater on Saturday, December 7th at 8:00 pm for the Treble Choir, and Sunday, December 8th, at 10:00 am for the Mixed Chorus. We are very proud of their accomplishments and know they will represent Oneida
well.
