Principal's Message

Oneida High School has a rich tradition of offering a comprehensive educational program to all students. The history of our high school dates back to the late 1800’s with the first Oneida graduating class in 1884. Much has changed in Oneida since this commencement.  The City of Oneida became a commuter city to the surrounding economy due to its close proximity to Utica and Syracuse. In recent years, the city has earnestly worked to reinvent itself due to economic changes that have presented itself to our community. Oneida High School has worked diligently to develop strategies to ensure programing best meet the abilities, interests, and talents of all students. As a staff, we are committed to continuously develop opportunities for students to be challenged and explore their areas of interest. We recognize there is a great diversity of needs and interests, and it is our intent to provide meaningful engagement for all.

Beyond required courses for graduation in English, Math, Science, LOTE, Social Studies, Physical Education, we offer many electives in Art, Music, Business, Technology and Foreign Language. Oneida High School offers nine advanced placement courses as electives including English, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, Computer Programing, American History, World History, and Art as well. In addition, we offer four Mohawk Valley Community College course electives in French, Spanish, Economics, and Government. We have an articulation agreement with Rochester Institute of Technology that allows our student to earn engineering credit through their institution. The Project Lead the Way Curriculum has become very popular with our students pursuing STEM related studies and professions. A majority of our students who enroll in these courses achieve scores that are acceptable for college credit.

Our Art and Music Departments have gained broad recognition for student achievement and performance both regionally and nationally. The Art Department offers two-dimensional and three-dimensional classes to develop students’ artistic talent. The Music Department provides students the opportunity to be part of two choruses, two bands, vocal jazz ensemble and an instrumental jazz group.

The Business Department ensures that all students have an understanding and level of proficiency in several Microsoft Office programs and Google Suits. This is a mandated graduation course for all students. Additionally, courses in Occupations/Careers, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Business Ownership, Business Law, Accounting, and Math and Finance have made this department a dynamic part of the comprehensive education of our students.

The Technology department has been one of the fastest growing departments within our school. The course offering provide a rich background in a variety of electives from pre engineering to carpentry to our newest course--the drone class. Innovative technology peeks student interests from designing and building a tiny house to developing skills needed in a career flourishing in drone aviation.

These are just a few areas we capture students’ interests hoping to develop a life-long passion for learning. We encourage students to participate, ask questions and get involved in all that Oneida High School has to offer.

As a community, we have much to be proud of--Oneida Strong!
